KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops man who runs the popular High Octane Comics and Collectibles has turned his passion for comics into a creative endeavor. He recently created and published his own comic, ‘Life,’ which has already gained a lot of attention from local comic book enthusiasts.

From behind the front counter, to on the shelves. Nick Klie is the manager at High Octane Comics and Collectibles on Third Avenue downtown. Klie has been given the opportunity to sell his own product.

Klie has always loved to read comic books and draw. His love for the medium led him to his current job at High Octane. Taking the step to become an author and illustrator himself revives an old childhood dream.

“I finally decided that I wanted to make my own comic. I just decided when I was 30 years old that I wanted to chase that dream — work on the thing I’ve wanted to do my whole life.” said Klie.

Klie was inspired by Judge Dredd and other comics of the ’90s. His own style is an attempt to revive the nostalgia of ’90s comic art.

“My art is really heavily influenced by Mobius and a creator named Carlos Escara. Carlos is the co-creator of Judge Dredd. They made a Stallone movie about Judge Dredd. And it’s this really kinda throwback style to 1970s, ’80s European science fiction comics.” Klie continued

The comic is a pilot, to test whether or not the venture is profitable. Proving successful so far, Klie hopes to continue with the series, and to share his stories with comic book readers everywhere.
