BC Wildfire Service to conduct pile burning near Heffley Creek
KAMLOOPS — Starting on Monday, BC Wildfire Service firefighters will conduct pile burning near Heffley Creek, as part of a fuels management project. Burning the grass now under controlled conditions helps prevent a later uncontrolled fire. Reducing the overall wildfire risk to communities in the district.
The burn area will be near the Evergreen Estates area and will be monitored by firefighters until it is completed by Wednesday. Smoke and flames may be visible to residents in surrounding areas, depending on the day’s conditions.
The controlled burns do not have a set time, as the burn will be entirely dependent on conditions. BC Wildfire Service has stated it will only proceed if conditions allow smoke to dissipate.
If smoke is visible, it will be seen to the north of Kamloops.
