KAMLOOPS — Eight days after they swept the Vancouver Giants, The Kamloops Blazers showed no signs of rust in game one of the semi-final playoffs. Defeating the Portland Winterhawks 6-4 on Friday (Apr.14) at Sandman Centre.

Emmitt Finnie opened the scoring near the halfway point of the first period. Finnie now has points in his last 15 games as a result. The Winterhawks did not take long to strike back as James Stefan quickly tied things up with his fifth of the post-season. Despite the Blazers outshooting Portland 17-8 in the opening frame, the score would remain 1-1 heading into the second period.

Different story in the second period. The big and strong Jakub Demek would put Kamloops up by past the halfway mark in the second with his first of the playoffs. Fraser Minten would also get himself on the board just a few minutes later with his first after missing the first round of the playoffs with an injury. But it’s James Stefan again who would strike the back of the net for Portland to keep them within one goal. Demek would score his second in the game just as the period is coming to an end to give the Blazers a 4-2 lead going into the third period.

Matthew Seminoff would get himself his first of the post-season early in the third, which would ultimately be the game winner. Logan Stankoven scored the insurance marker while the Winterhawks scored two more goals near the end but it was too late for a comeback. Dylan Ernst was solid between the pipes making 28 saves in the win.
