Interior Health warns cocaine tainted with fentanyl may be fatal

KAMLOOPS — Interior Health has issued a warning about tainted cocaine that may be fatal for those who ingest it.

In an alert published Thursday (April 13), IH says the cocaine has been found to contain fentanyl. In cases located across IH’s coverage area, the substance has been connected with overdose incidents and fatalities.

The alert will remain in effect for a full week, until April 20.

In addition to the risk of death, the fentanyl-laced cocaine could cause amnesia, sleepiness, heavy snoring or ‘nodding out’ for a long time.

People who use drugs are encouraged to check their substances for purity and to never use alone.
