Hockey fans finding tight accommodation market in Kamloops during Memorial Cup

KAMLOOPS — With the Memorial Cup just over a month away, fans are having a difficult time when it comes to finding affordable hotels or AirBnBs around Kamloops. Only 11 AirBnBs under $100 per night show up that are available for the entire tournament.

Hotels in Kamloops are also filling up as none of the results, according to Google Hotels, were less than $115 per night.

When packaged alongside the price of tickets, which are going for $155 for two games on Ticketmaster, it could be an expensive outing for those coming from out of town.

Fans and scouts have made comments on Twitter about how they are also struggling to find accommodation.

“Who knew finding a suitable place to rest my head in Kamloops for the Memorial Cup would be so difficult,” tweeted EliteProspects Director of Film Scouting Cam Robinson

While there are still places for hockey enthusiasts to stay, it may cost quite a bit more than finding a hotel in a larger city. Google Hotels indicates that Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary all have hotels and AirBnBs going for significantly less.

The Memorial Cup will run from May 26 until June 4. This tournament will bring the best team in the WHL, CHL and QMJHL as well as the local Kamloops Blazers, to face off in the week-long event.
