ARMSTRONG, B.C. — Tolko Industries has announced a shift reduction in the lumber operations at its Armstrong division.
“Both the planer and the sawmill will be moving from two shifts to a single shift starting on April 17, and employees were informed of the change today (April 10),” Chris Downey, communications advisor for Tolko, told Vernon Matters.
The change will impact about 65 employees.
“This temporary shift reduction is due to high fibre costs and weak North American lumber markets. This is not ideal, and from a people and production perspective, we would always rather be fully operational,” Downey added.
