KAMLOOPS — Despite only spending about half of his season in the B.C. Division, Kamloops Blazer Olen Zellweger is the division’s nominee for the Western Hockey League’s top defenceman.
Zellweger, an Anaheim Ducks draft pick, was acquired from the Everett Silvertips on January 8. He proceeded to pile up 22 goals and 52 points in just 32 games with Kamloops. The Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta native ended the regular season with a career-high 32 goals and 80 points, leading all defenders in the Western Conference.
Zellweger will have stiff competition for the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy from Christoofer Sedoff (Red Deer), Kevin Korchinski (Seattle) and Stanislav Svozil (Regina).
