Apr 9, 2023 | 10:40 AM

MERRITT – The residents of Merritt were dealt a blow on Easter Sunday as the local Emergency Room services were temporarily closed due to a shortage of nurses. The closure, which started at 7 AM and continues until 7 PM, leaving the local community without access to essential emergency medical services.

The Nicola Valley Hospital remains open for non-emergency medical matters.

According to IH, the closure was a result of a staffing shortage in the nursing department. An ongoing problem for the Nicola Valley Hospital.

Patients in need of immediate medical attention are to be directed to the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, which is about an hour’s drive from Merritt. IH urges that those experiencing an emergency still call 9/11 for the most prompt service.
