KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP happened upon a house fire in the downtown Thursday morning (April 6).

According to detachment spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, officers were looking into an unrelated matter in the 600-block of Seymour Street at about 5:00 a.m. when they were flagged down and told about the blaze in a nearby home.

“The officers attended and observed the west side of a residence on fire,” said Evelyn in a news release. “They knocked on the doors and windows and yelled into the residence to alert anyone who might be inside, but no one responded.”

Kamloops Fire Rescue crews arrived to knock down the fire and confirm no one was inside the home.

Evelyn says the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

“Right now, it’s too early in the investigation to make any assumptions into the cause of the fire, including if it’s suspicious,” said Evelyn.

Anyone with further information on the blaze, including video footage, is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file 2023-11551.
