Man arrested, accused of setting grass fires in Kenna Cartwright Park

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP arrested a man on Friday (March 31) after a series of fires in Kenna Cartwright Park.

According to detachment spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, RCMP were alerted to a man lighting grass on fire in the park at about 9:20 a.m. Friday.

A member of the public was said to be following the suspect and extinguishing the fires he was starting.

When RCMP members arrived, Kamloops Fire Rescue crews had been present as well, putting out another fire.

Members arrested a suspect nearby. The man was taken to cells to sober up before he was released with conditions and a court date.
