KAMLOOPS — A blue “Ikea” area rug with blood stains has been linked to a violent criminal act, according to the RCMP South East District Major Crime Unit. The rug was turned into the Barriere RCMP Detachment, but investigators are unsure of its origin, except that it came from the Kamloops region.

The 5’ x 8’ area rug is believed to have been used in a targeted offence. While RCMP are assuring the public that no danger exists, the circumstances surrounding the blood on the rug remain unknown.

In a news release from the RCMP, investigators say they are seeking the public’s help in determining the origin of the rug. RCMP Staff Sgt. Jason Smart of the South East District Major Crime Unit, says police are uncertain about where the rug came from and the specifics of the offence.

Police released a stock image of the rug in hopes it would trigger someone’s memory. Anyone with information is urged to contact the South East District Major Crime Unit Tip Line at 1-877-987-8477.
