Sandman Centre’s temporary platform cost partly due to miscommunication: host committee
KAMLOOPS — After a recent announcement from the City of Kamloops coming to an agreement to fund 50 per cent of the temporary platform for the 2023 Memorial Cup, there are some questions being asked about why it was a last-minute decision.
This comes after council had discussions earlier this week with the Memorial Cup Host Committee about the $200,000 platform. Talks about the platform have been ongoing dating back to September 2022 but the additional cost was the only thing that seemed to be a surprise.
“We thought all along that we could operate within the existing budget,” Yves Lacasse, Memorial Cup Host Committee chairman told CFJC Today. “The moment that it got flagged it was going to create some additional costs, a decision was made by city staff to go and have a discussion with city council and that’s what took place this week,”
