B.C. Wildfire Service to conduct burn in Williams Lake’s Boitanio Park, Stampede Park Grounds

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Williams Lake residents can expect to see smoke and flames within city limits in the coming weeks.

In conjunction with the City of Williams Lake and Williams Lake First Nation, the B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) is planning a pair of prescribed burns as a means of reducing wildfire risk.

The operation will burn off a combined 9.5 hectares within Boitanio Park and the Stampede Park Grounds.

In a news release, BCWS says the operation could begin as soon as next Tuesday (April 4) and continue as conditions permit until April 21.

“The intent of the prescribed burns is to reduce the risk of a wildfire spreading within city limits and to promote the growth of local plant species while reducing the spread of invasive plant species,” states the release.
