KAMLOOPS — The TRU Wolfpack baseball club are looking a lot younger than previous years. Sixteen players out of the 36 on the roster are in their first year.

“We are not very veteran oriented, like you just said. Most of our guys are in their first or second year,” Head Coach Ray Chadwick told CFJC Today.

One of those first-year players is Kamloops born Manny Recchi who says he’s still adjusting to play at the university level.

“Definitely, a lot different. University is a lot different than high school for sure with the school and everything on top of it,” Recchi said.

Luckily for Recchi, he’s got veterans to lean on like second baseman Josh Wright. The fifth year players says although it can be a challenge leading a younger group of athletes, it’s a role he’s proud to be in.

“You get to connect with a lot of different guys and have real good talks with some young bucks,” Wright said. “Help them out whether it’s schooling, on-field or off-field kind of stuff.”

Despite having 16 rookies on the team, Chadwick has confidence in them being able to play at a high level.

“They’re ready to play at this level. Mixed in with the young guys we had last year, we should be pretty competitive and pretty successful again this year.”
