KAMLOOPS — He may be the Kamloops Blazers’ Number 2 option in goal, but Matthew Kieper is proving he’s no slouch.

The 19-year-old Kieper has been named the Western Hockey League’s Goaltender of the Week after a stellar pair of outings.

Kieper stopped 28 of 29 shots in a 7-1 drubbing of Everett last Wednesday (Mar. 8). He followed that up with a 25-save shutout of Vancouver at home on Saturday.

The Winnipeg native was acquired from Regina in January and has accumulated a 7-1-0-0 record with a .913 save percentage in nine games since joining the Blazers.
