Three dead in house fire south of Vernon

VERNON, B.C. — Three people died in a home fire south of Vernon Monday.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a call to assist Vernon Fire Rescue Services at a fully involved structure fire on Commonage Road at approximately 11:50 p.m. March 6.

Police say adult occupants of the residence were believed to be home at the time and unable to escape the fire, which completely destroyed the residence.

Once the scene had been deemed safe, and examination was conducted and suspected human remains were uncovered.

The B.C. Coroners Service investigated the scene and located the remains of three deceased individuals.

“This is an incredibly tragic incident and our sincerest sympathies go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer, said.

Mounties say the cause of the blaze remains unknown, but the preliminary investigations did not discover any criminal motive.

The B.C. Coroners Service has also launched a concurrent investigation into the deaths.
