Reed, Vliegenthart and Collins elected to Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame in 2023
KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame will welcome three more individuals in its class of 2023.
Olympian Gary Reed, Paralympian Jessica Vliegenthart, and former CFJC News Director Doug Collins will be enshrined on the second floor of the Tournament Capital Centre for 2023.
Reed competed in middle distance running in two summer Olympics: Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. Reed finished fourth in the 800 metres in Beijing. He track record also includes six Canadian championships, six World championship appearances – including a silver medal in 2007. He retired at 29 and is currently raising his family in Kamloops while working as a partner and vice president of development with A&T Project Developments.
After surviving a spinal cord injury, Vliegenthart won three Wheelchair Basketball Canada championships with Team BC, and gold and silver medals with Team Canada at the Parapan American Games. She and her husband are raising two girls, and she is a lawyer and partner with Fulton and Co.
