Vehicle incident closes snowy Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt

UPDATE (10:45 a.m.): While the incident at Lander Creek Bridge is now cleared, DriveBC says the Coquihalla Highway in the area is closed in both directions due to heavy congestion and extreme weather.

Crews with heavy equipment are working to clear excess snow. Another update is due at 2 p.m.

UPDATE (7:45 a.m.): The northbound lanes of the Coquihalla Highway near Ladner Creek Bridge have reopened, but DriveBC says traffic is still closed southbound.

Drivers are told to expect major delays. Another update is due at 10 a.m.

EARLIER: KAMLOOPS — The Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt is closed in both directions Friday (March 3) morning.

DriveBC first reported of a vehicle incident on Highway 5 at Ladner Creek Bridge at around 5:30 a.m.

While the vehicle incident initially closed southbound traffic, DriveBC followed up an hour later that traffic is closed in both directions.

A detour is available via Highway 1 and 3. Another update is due at 8 a.m.

A snowfall warning remains in effect for the Coquihalla Highway until Friday afternoon.
