KAMLOOPS — A 30-bed overnight shelter for those experiencing homelessness in Kamloops will remain open for another month.

In a news release, the Mustard Seed announced the Extreme Weather Response Shelter at Kamloops Alliance Church on the North Shore will operate through March 31.

The Mustard Seed and the church partnered to open the shelter on Dec. 14, 2022, and have operated it for 19 nights.

“With the increase in cold temperatures and falling snow, we know this shelter is still needed within the community,” said Kelly Thomson, Mustard Seed managing director. “The church has agreed to continue to support our vulnerable community in this way. This is a way to keep people safe and warm through the colder nights, allowing them to find support and protection from life-threatening incidents that can occur during winter weather.”

According to the Mustard Seed, the church has provided more than 275 volunteer hours and assisted its staff with set-up and connections to guests.
