Longtime Kamloops curling umpire receives award at the Scotties

KAMLOOPS — A local curling umpire who has officiated multiple major Canadian championships received an award at the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts Saturday (Feb.25)
Dianne Barker earned the Joan Mead Builder’s award, which recognizes someone who is a builder in the sport of curling. The award is named in honour of the late CBC curling producer Joan Mead.
Barker is a longtime curling umpire who has been involved in a number of curling championships, including the 2010 Winter Olympics when Vancouver played host and the 2014 Tim Hortons Brier when Kamloops hosted the tournament.
The Scotties will conclude on Sunday (Feb.26).
