Kamloops RCMP investigate second shooting of man in five months

Feb 25, 2023 | 4:52 PM

KAMLOOPS — For the second time in five months, Kamloops RCMP are investigating a shooting of the same individual.

The latest shooting occurred early Saturday (Feb. 25) morning at a residence in the 700 block of McGill Road.

When Mounties arrived at the scene around 3 a.m., they found the 35-year-old victim. He was taken to hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.

In a news release, RCMP says three men broke into the home wearing dark clothing and balaclavas. They assaulted the victim before shooting him. They made off on foot towards the cemetery off McGill Road.

“In the interest of public safety, we are confirming that this is the same individual who was previously targeted in September of 2022,” said Superintendent Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge of the Kamloops RCMP.

In that incident the shooting occurred around 7 a.m. on Friday September 16. Five people were taken into custody.

“I understand that learning of a second shooting will be concerning to area residents and the community at large but I believe it is important that we offer some context here,” said Pelley. “That context is that the same victim has been targeted twice, and these were not random acts of violence.”

Despite the use of a police service dog, the latest suspects were not located.

“The investigation is a priority and we will continue to advance it, in our efforts to identify and hold to account those responsible for committing these blatant acts of violence,” said Pelley.

Anyone with information on the shooting can contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and refer to file 2023-6527.
