KAMLOOPS — Friday (Feb. 24) had the potential to be a long day for Team B.C. and skip Clancy Grandy. With a pair of wins, Grandy could have ended up playing three games in a row in the pursuit of Scotties gold.

It started early Friday morning with a pair of tiebreaker games in Pool A and a rematch between B.C. and Quebec that, this time, would see Grandy come out on top.

“We kind of knew where we made mistakes last time and what we needed to do to flip that around this time. And we were able to do that today,” said Grandy after the game.

Team B.C. took advantage of a big miss from Quebec in the 8th end to allow Grandy an open hit and stick for three and handshakes.

“Feeling good, it’s just into the playoffs now and we have kind of had a few do-or-die games so we are feeling good with that. We still have more in the tank, energy-wise. We feel good about that. Getting a few must-win games under our belts is really good for us,” said Grandy.

While some people didn’t expect a first-time Scotties team to advance to the playoffs, the confidence never wavered for the squad. Third Kayla MacMillan said they love the pressure.

“We thought we would be in this position. We just believed in ourselves and have two great coaches that also believe in us. And a great family to support us here,” said MacMillan.

“We felt confident going into the week. We have played a lot of these teams this year and felt like we started proving ourselves in the rankings. I feel like we’ve just been continuing that this week,” added Grandy.

With the possible triple-header in front of them, Team B.C. prepared the best way they know how for the grueling day in Kamloops.

“You just try to get as much sleep the night before as you can and make sure you are ready with some nutrition in between. And just keep going,” said Grandy.

Team B.C. was on the ice this afternoon taking on six-time Scotties champion Jennifer Jones and Team Manitoba. Team B.C. sadly falling short 9-4 in nine ends.
