A perfect 10: Blazers extend win streak with 6-3 victory over Broncos

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers took their nine-game winning streak and perfect Prairie road trip into Swift Current Wednesday (Feb. 22) night, and emerged with a 6-3 win.

The Blazers peppered the Swift Current Broncos with 24 shots in the first period but only had one goal to show for it: a slap shot from Ryan Hofer on the power play from the near circle.

However, the second period is when the Blazers exploded for four goals to take a 5-0 lead. Logan Stankoven scored his first goal of the road trip from the slot, Ashton Ferster added another power play goal on an odd-man rush, Connor Levis tipped in Fraser Minten’s long wrist shot from the point, and Hofer scored his second of the night by tipping Ferster’s pass towards the net.

The Broncos found a way to make a game of it by scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes of the third period but Levis’ second of the game from the top of the slot ice the game for the Blazers. Jakub Demek got an assist on Levis’ goal for his first point since being acquired by the Blazers in November 2022 and returning from injury.

The Blazers have won 10 straight games, including winning all on their Prairie road trip so far. They improved their record to 37-10-4-2, good for 80 points in 53 games. The Blazers are first in the Western Hockey League B.C. Division, second in the Western Conference, and third overall in the league.

The Blazers’ road trip continues Friday (Feb. 24) in Lethbridge when they visit the Hurricanes.
