Feb 20, 2023 | 11:07 AM

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is launching a pilot program called Safe Places in schools across the region this week.

The program aims to promote safety for the 2SLGBTQPIA+ community while engaging schools and businesses to provide a safe space for those experiencing hate.

The Safe Places Rainbow Shield will be placed on school office and counsellor doors to identify the area as a safe space for students who are being bullied to wait until the police arrive.

The launch of the Safe Places program coincides with Pink Shirt Day (Feb. 22), which raises awareness about the harm of bullying and promotes kindness, empathy, and understanding.
