Heavy snow expected along area highways
VANCOUVER — Up to 35 cm of snow could fall along the Coquihalla Highway over the next few days, making for potentially troublesome driving conditions as the B.C. Family Day long weekend winds down.
Environment Canada has issued a heavy snowfall warning for the stretch of highway between Merritt and Hope. It has also issued a warning for the Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass
It says a Pacific frontal system will be delivering the snowfall from Sunday (Feb. 19) night through Tuesday morning. While the snow is expected to start Sunday, the heaviest snowfall could arrive Monday evening.
Forecasters are predicting 25 cm to 35 cm near the summit of the Coquihalla by Tuesday morning. Up to 25 cm is expected between Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass. Snow will taper off Tuesday afternoon in both locations.
