Sunday Overlanders Bridge closure due to mental health crisis; man taken to hospital safely

KAMLOOPS — Overlanders Bridge was briefly closed Sunday afternoon (Feb. 12) while Kamloops RCMP responded to a report of a man experiencing a mental health crisis.

In a news release issued Monday morning, RCMP say officers and first responders blocked access to the bridge and a portion of Victoria Street West at around 5:40 p.m.

Police say they were able to calm the man down and send him to hospital for medical assessment and care. The bridge reopened at around 6:20 p.m. Sunday.
