TRU Men’s basketball narrowly lose to best in the west

KAMLOOPS – The top team in Canada West Men’s Basketball paid a visit to the TCC on Friday night as the Manitoba Bisons battled the WolfPack on the final weekend of the regular season. Sadly TRU was eliminated from playoff contention a week ago, but had the chance to play spoiler with Manitoba only a half game above Victoria for the regular season crown.

The game would start out slow with both teams ice-cold from the floor, it was 17-15 visitors after the first quarter. Thompson Rivers would heat up in the second quarter flipping that two point deficit into a five point lead as the teams hit half-time.

In the second half, the dangerous three-point attack of the Bison was on display as there big guns of Mason Kruas and Simon Hildebrandt began to find their range. Despite the hot shooting from Manitoba, TRU still held a three point lead into the final quarter.

The fourth started out strong for TRU building up a 70-62 lead, before the Bisons would go on a 20-6 run to end the game and win 82-76.

The ‘Pack were lead by a four-stack of starters on Friday night, Denys Bachurin had 22, Daniel Bost 17, Asher Mayan 15, and Thomas Olsen with 12.

In the women’s game, the WolfPack were up against a team from Manitoba that has rattled off all four of their wins after the Christmas break.

In her final weekend wearing the orange and black Megan Rouault led her squad with 15 points but the Bison were just to strong throughout. On multiple occasion TRU was able to cut the lead down to around 10 points, but couldn’t get any closer than that as they fall 59-43.

Both teams will play there final regular season games of the year on Saturday night at the TCC. Tip-off slated for 5:30.
