Deadly crash closes Highway 5 south of Barriere

BARRIERE, B.C. — UPDATE (3:55 p.m.): B.C. Highway Patrol has confirmed one person was killed in a crash south of Barriere during the noon hour Thursday (Feb. 9).

Spokesperson Cst. Mike Moore says the incident took place on Highway 5 between Barriere and Louis Creek at about 12:08 p.m. between two commercial trucks and a pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck was killed and a passenger was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries.

Officers from Barriere, Clearwater and Kamloops are investigating, as well as a collision reconstructionist. Moore says there is nothing to indicate any criminality contributing to the crash.

The highway remained closed in both directions late Thursday afternoon with no word on a reopening time.

EARLIER: Multiple sources are telling CFJC Today a crash near Barriere Thursday was fatal.

Drive BC says Highway 5 is closed in both directions between Clough Road and Agate Bay Road due to a multi-vehicle crash.

A witness who was one of the first to appear at the scene after the collision took place said a semi truck and a pickup truck were involved. The driver of the pickup truck was deceased at the scene, while a passenger survived.
