KAMLOOPS — B.C.’s police watchdog is looking into an incident of a woman who was treated for an injury after spending the night in Kamloops RCMP cells.

In a news release, the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) says the incident began on Saturday (Feb. 4) in Sahali.

At about 11:35 p.m. Saturday, RCMP were called to a reported disturbance at a home on McGill Road. Police arrested a woman believed to be involved in the disturbance, lodging her in cells for the night.

The next morning, the woman told police she was injured. When she was taken to hospital for treatment, it was determined her injury was serious in nature and the matter was forwarded to the IIO.
