Upstart MacEwan teams deal blow to WolfPack playoff hopes in men’s, women’s volleyball
EDMONTON — Not much fun in Edmonton Friday (Feb. 3) for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack volleyball teams, who dropped matches on both the men’s and women’s sides to the lowly MacEwan Griffins.
On the men’s side, the WolfPack (8-and-11) couldn’t get the offence going in a four-set loss (25-20, 25-27, 25-19, 25-17). Sam Flowerday led the ‘Pack with 13 kills, while Mitch Gorman and Jefferson Morrow had 15 kills each for the Griffins (2-and-17).
For the women, the WolfPack (7-and-12) made a valiant comeback effort, but it just fell short in a five-set loss (25-21, 26-24, 21-25, 22-25, 15-11) that may have playoff implications.
Brooklyn Olfert put forward a dominating effort with 25 kills for TRU, while Mariah Bereziuk responded with 15 kills for MacEwan.
