Highway 5 closed south of McLure after two-semi crash

McLURE, B.C. — UPDATE (3:55 p.m.): RCMP have confirmed one person died in a crash on Highway 5 near McLure earlier Thursday (Feb. 2).

In a news release, police say the crash before the noon hour between two semi trucks resulted in one driver killed and the other injured. B.C. Emergency Health Services says the surviving driver was transported to hospital via ground ambulance.

The road has been closed in both directions ever since the collision, and there is no word when it might reopen.

EARLIER: Highway 5 is closed in both directions in the area of McLure after a very serious vehicle incident.

The crash was called in at about 11:45 a.m. and is believed to have involved two semi trucks.

A photo from the scene posted to social media shows one of the trucks, now in the ditch, was carrying steel beams.

Drive BC says the highways is closed in both directions.
