Kamloops City Council to pore over rezoning application for large residential project along Columbia Street
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops City Council is being asked to consider a rezoning application to make way for an eight-storey 141 unit apartment style building at First Avenue and Columbia Street. The site is currently zoned to allow for a maximum four-storey multi-family unit. Several current properties fall under the rezoning application.
When the project is complete, a total of 171 strata-titled and rental multi-family residential units will be available. That includes the retention of two single-family dwellings with suites and the existing 30 units at 683 1st Avenue.
Of the 141 additional units to be built, 27 units will be made available for rental while 114 units will be available for purchase through a realtor. The development will offer 56 studio units, 98 one-bedroom units, and 17 two-bedroom units.
During a public information meeting, residents raised concern over issues around vibration during the construction period and the impact it could have on the integrity of the hillside as well as the homes in existing the Westview Village. Developers also say only one person will be displaced through the construction phase.
