Barkerville opening June 3rd for 100 day summer schedule
BARKERVILLE – Visitors will have 100 days to visit the popular tourist town of Barkerville this year. The 2023 schedule was released this week by the Barkerville Historic Town & Park Sunday (Jan. 29). Bakerville will open its doors to visitors from Saturday, June 3 to Sunday, September 10.
Officials say Barkerville will continue to offer live interpretation programs and its popular shops and restaurants. Old favourites including the Guided Town Tour and Cornish Waterwheel will return. And visitors will be able to learn more about the Chinese culture of Barkerville while immersing themselves in the stories of the Original Peoples of this land.
“We’re very excited to confirm our dates for this season,” says Kate Cox, CEO of Barkerville Historic Town & Park. “We are still in recovery from the financial hit caused by COVID and two seasons of wildfire emergencies in the local area, so we are constantly evaluating how to best preserve our programming.”
Special events are being planned for the July 1 Dominion Day celebration and the season’s opening of the Theatre Royal. Barkerville’s 8th annual Indigenous Celebration will return as a two-day event on the weekend of August 19 and 20. And the Chinese Mid-Autumn Moon Festival will help close out the season on Saturday, September 9.
