VERNON — Local Mounties arrested a drug trafficking suspect after discovering a stolen license plate on a vehicle in Vernon.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP officers were conducting patrols on the afternoon of Tuesday, Jan. 24, when they located a vehicle with a stolen Saskatchewan license plate.

Additional officers were called to the scene, a parking lot in the 3400 block of 35th Avenue, and as they arrived, the suspect attempted to drive away and evade police.

However, the suspect vehicle was safely contained and the driver was arrested.

A search of the driver led to the discovery of a large quantity of drugs in his possession, and a further search of the vehicle led to the seizure of additional drugs suspected to be methamphetamines, fentanyl and cocaine.

Mounties say the driver, 30-year-old David Macintosh of Vernon, has been charged with a number of criminal offences including three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and several driving offences.

Macintosh appeared in court Jan. 25 and has been released pending his next court appearance Feb. 23.

The RCMP’s investigation into the case is ongoing.
