KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP used a taser on a man who was sent to hospital under the Mental Health Act Monday (Jan. 23) night after a wellbeing check in Dufferin.

In a news release issued Wednesday (Jan. 25) morning, Kamloops RCMP say they were called to a home on Mount Dufferin Crescent where a man was allegedly experiencing a drug-induced mental health crisis and behaving in a threatening manner.

Police say attempts to calm the man down were unsuccessful.

Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says due to the man’s behaviour, officers used a taser on him during his arrest. Evelyn says the man was still combative after he was placed in handcuffs. Paramedics assisted police in sending the man to hospital for medical treatment under the Mental Health Act.
