LOGAN LAKE, B.C. — A Kamloops man is facing charges after an attempt to evade police ended with a suspects in custody and a stolen pickup truck engulfed in flames.

Logan Lake RCMP say the incident took place on Jan. 13 at a highway maintenance yard off Highway 97D.

A highway crew member noticed a man he suspected of syphoning diesel fuel from a loader truck in the yard. The suspect and a female passenger were in a Dodge Ram pickup. The crew member used his plow truck to block the pickup from escaping.

The suspect rammed the plow truck to no avail before trying to drive over a snowbank to flee. That’s when the pickup became high-centred and, as the driver spun the tires, caught fire.

RCMP corralled the suspect and passenger as they tried to flee on foot.

“It was the quick thinking of the maintenance crew operator to block the truck that led to the suspect being captured,” said Cpl. Duncan. “The investigation is ongoing and police suspect the truck was stolen out of Kamloops.”

Sean Nicholson, 35, is charged with theft under $5,000, driving while prohibited, failing to comply with an undertaking and breach of a probation order. He remains in custody, with a court date set for Jan. 26. RCMP note further investigation into the stolen pickup truck may lead to more charges.

The passenger was not charged.

Anyone with further information into the incident is asked to contact Logan Lake RCMP at (250) 523-6222.
