KAMLOOPS — The TRU WolfPack volleyball teams will be back in action at the Tournament Capital Centre this weekend, as the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades visits Kamloops.

Men’s volleyball will take to the court at 5:30 pm on Friday (Jan. 20) and 3:00 pm Saturday. The men sit in 8th place in the Canada West standings and face a UFV team with four wins and 12 losses this season.

On the women’s side, Fraser Valley has a record of 11 wins and five losses and sits three spots ahead of the seven-and-nine WolfPack in the race for the Canada West playoffs. The WolfPack know wins will be hard to come by down the stretch, and they have a strong belief they’ll be a playoff team this year.

“Honestly, anything can happen, and that excites us,” fifth-year setter Abby Spratt tells CFJC Sports. “We know that this battle isn’t over, and we know that playoffs are definitely in our future. We’re constantly pushing for that, and pushing for those upsets because it’s awesome being the underdog.”

The women play at 7:15 pm Friday night and 4:45 pm on Saturday afternoon. They’re currently in 9th place in Canada West and have a very tough schedule to wind down the season. However, the belief remains strong that this squad can make the post-season, and maybe shock a few teams once they get there.

“I think it’s just how close we are with each other. Everyone is just really supportive, and we have a really deep bench. There’s no one set line-up,” fourth-year middle Hayley McNaught explains. “Our support and our courage and the fight that we have for each other and for the team are what makes us the best we can be.”
