Fish and Game Club teaching kids to fish Sunday

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Fish and Game Club will be welcoming hundreds of kids to Walloper Lake, near Lac le Jeune, on Sunday as part of their 2023 kids ice fishing day.

The free to attend event will run from 10-2 pm.

“That really our objective, to introduce kids to fishing. In the summer we do it on the open water in our boats. And in the winter we do it on the ice,” said organizer Dave Helmer. “It’s a fun event for the kids, but also our members. It’s fun for them to see kids catch their first fish.”

This year the local school district will be taking approximately 68 foreign exchange students out to the lake to experience fishing.

“That in itself is fun,” added Helmer. “They are enjoying the culture. And not often they get to walk on water.”
