First seasonal readings show snowpack below normal for B.C., North and South Thompson
VICTORIA — The first provincial snowpack survey is in for this season, showing slightly below-average totals for most of B.C.
B.C. River Forecast Centre (BCRFC) data for January 1, 2023 shows a provincial average of 82 per cent of normal snowpack.
The BCRFC says little alpine snow accumulated during an extended cold and dry stretch through November and December.
One of the only areas to receive more snow than usual for that period was the Lower Thompson sub-basin of the Middle Fraser, which was at exactly twice the normal total.
