North Shore RCMP stop results in seizure of gun, drugs, cash

KAMLOOPS — RCMP officers took weapons and drugs off the streets in a North Shore traffic stop on New Year’s Eve.

In a news release, Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of Kamloops RCMP says the suspect was nabbed in the 600-block of Duncan Avenue at about 8:00 a.m. last Saturday (Dec. 31).

An officer making patrols noticed a man “known to be associated to the drug trade” leave a home and get into a running vehicle.

After pulling the vehicle over and investigating, the officer seized brass knuckles, a loaded 9 mm handgun, more than $5,000 in cash and upwards of 400 grams of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and codeine.

“Keeping these drugs and weapons off the streets of our community will have an immeasurable impact, but has likely saved lives,” states Supt. Jeff Pelley. “We will continue to identify and proactively target those connected to the drug trade in Kamloops in our efforts to keep our community safe.”
