Holiday flooding impacting imaging services at Royal Inland Hospital

KAMLOOPS — Royal Inland Hospital’s (RIH) medical imaging department has experienced flooding due to burst water lines over the holidays.
In an email to CFJC Today late Wednesday (Dec. 28) afternoon, Interior Health says the flooding has resulted in the temporary closure of one CT scanner, two X-ray rooms, and a radiography suite at RIH. CT services will continue using the second scanner at a reduced capacity and some select procedures will be performed in another radiology suite.
Interior Health says having one X-ray room available is expected to delay regular services. To allow timely X-ray access for RIH emergency and priority in-patients, Interior Health says it’s been in talks with primary care practitioners requesting that out-patients requiring general X-ray exams — such as chest, knee, and spine — be referred to one of the two private X-ray clinics in Kamloops.
Currently, there is no expected reopening date for the CT scanner, two X-ray rooms, and radiography suite that have been impacted by flooding at RIH.
