Avalanche threat closes Highway 1 between Revelstoke and Golden – other major routes also affected

UPDATE: 8:45 p.m. KAMLOOPS — The Ministry of Highways says the Trans-Canada highway from Sicamous to Golden will remain closed overnight due to avalanche control and high avalanche hazard.

KAMLOOPS — A powerful winter storm has led to the closure of the Trans-Canada highway between Revelstoke and Golden.

According to a tweet from DriveBC, the road has been closed in both directions due to a high avalanche hazard. No detour is available. DriveBC expects to update the situation at 9 p.m. this evening (Dec. 24).

Meantime Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon is also closed from Boston Bar to Hope over avalanche concerns.

The Ministry of Transportation is warning drivers about the threat of heavy snowfall or freezing rain along the Coquihalla highway between Merritt and Hope.
