KAMLOOPS — It’s been freezing cold recently in Kamloops but once it starts to warm up – locals are getting outside.

From downhill sledding to cross-country skiing and skating people are out in the elements enjoying winter activities.

“Ooh, what’s the best part about being out here? Sledding and the fresh air definitely,” says Melissa Wade with her son Gino.

Rosemary and David Stoltze say they like to get outside using their cross-country skis keeping them busy through the winter months.

“We do all kinds of stuff but we like to keep active and cross-country skiing is one of our favourite things to do in the winter,” says Rosemary.

“We get about six weeks a year of being able to just walk across the street from our house, put on our skis and go skiing which is what we’re doing now,” David adds.

A pair of local boys hit the ice at the outdoor rink up in Pineview saying it was great getting a skate in.

“It’s just good to go because we’ve been trapped inside for a few days and it’s just good to get out,” says Decon Lockwood.

“Oh it feels nice, yesterday I was out here and it was freezing cold, I only lasted like half an hour now I can actually [play a little] longer,” Landon McGillis added.

Over at McGowan park, a few families were able to enjoy the fresh snow hitting jumps and taking some tumbles.

“Yeah, it’s so nice to be outside,” added Wade.
