KAMLOOPS – The Centre for Seniors Information (CSI) Kamloops is once again trying to do a little something for seniors in the community who may be alone over the holiday season.

According to Brandi Allen, executive director of CSI Kamloops, the centre is collecting donations of goodies, hygiene products and anything else local seniors may like, wrapping them and delivering them to seniors in need with their Secret Santa program.

“I think this program is one of the most important ones that we do, not just because of the gift we give away but the connection that we make. I think that connection is really important,” Allen said.

“When we identify seniors who are lonely, who are isolated, we have an opportunity to touch base with them throughout the year and make sure they are getting everything that they need, [which] is incredibly important.”

“It’s really heartwarming and it’s heartbreaking at the same time,” she continued. “But it’s really nice to be able to connect the seniors that have been identified as isolated.”

The executive director said the organization is on track to deliver almost 700 packages to seniors in Kamloops.

Allen said this program is her favourite she has participated in with the centre, and that it’s a lot more than just a gift to those who receive the packages.

“We rely a lot on public donations for this,” she said. “Kamloops never ceases to amaze me this time of year.”

Donations can be dropped off at the CSI building at Brock Shopping Centre or the London Drugs downtown, located at 450 Lansdowne, until Dec. 16.
