Former Kamloops councillors feel Hamer-Jackson needs to work better with council; O’Fee suggests mediation
KAMLOOPS — From the moment Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson recused himself from the entire council meeting on Tuesday (Dec. 6), chaos and speculation have ensued at Kamloops City Hall.
The recusal followed a two-hour, closed-door meeting without him present — with the city’s lawyer addressing councillors and staff, presumably about his legal fight with ASK Wellness, which has accused him of defamation.
“I think what’s happened is the mayor has found out that a lot of things he thought he was going to be able to do just aren’t going to happen,” said former councillor Dieter Dudy, who finished second behind Hamer-Jackson in the mayoral race in October. “In his mind, he feels people are throwing up roadblocks, so rather than work with the people to learn the process, he’s been wailing against them and that’s what’s caused him his problems.”
