KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: RCMP say a high-visibility investigation in a North Shore neighbourhood this afternoon has yielded several arrests.

In a news release, RCMP say they served a search warrant at a home on 13th Street between Halston Avenue and Lethbridge Avenue just before 2:00 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 8). As part of the investigation, the street was closed off, nearby residents were told to stay inside, and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called in to assist.

Superintendent Jeff Pelley says police were investigating forcible confinement, threats and gun offences.

“Due to the nature of the investigation and the risk assessment conducted, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment engaged the assistance of ERT for entry into the associated residence,” said Pelley. “Neighbours inside the containment area were requested to stay inside their homes as a safety precaution, until the suspects involved were taken into custody and the area was confirmed as safe.”

Pelley notes several people have been arrested but RCMP remain in the area to further their investigation.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file number 2022-43389.

EARLIER: Kamloops RCMP are asking motorists to avoid the area of 13th Street between Halston Avenue and Lethbridge Avenue due to a large police presence in the area.

Spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says police are conducting an investigation in the area.

A neighbour says police are concentrating on a home at 1194 13th Street.

There’s no word what the investigation is regarding or when the area might open up again.
