VERNON, B.C. — The provincial representative for Vernon-Monashee is taking on more responsibilities.

MLA Harwinder Sandhu has been assigned the role of parliamentary secretary for seniors’ services and long-term care.

This will be Sandhu’s first assigned role in government. The first-term MLA is taking over the position from Mable Elmore, who is being moved to a new role.

Vernon Matters reached out to Sandhu for comment on her new role and the make-up of Premier David Eby’s new cabinet, announced Wednesday.

The only other representative in the Okanagan, Roly Russel, MLA for Boundary-Similkameen, was named the parliamentary secretary for rural development, a role he previously held.

The other two MLAs in the Interior were assigned roles as well.

Katrine Conroy (Kootenay West) was named minister of finance, leaving behind her previous position as minister of forests.

Brittny Anderson (Nelson-Creston) was assigned the role of parliamentary secretary for tourism and premier’s special advisor on youth. She had previously held the position as special advisor on youth.
