New finance minister, two new ministries a part of Premier Eby’s cabinet
VICTORIA — New B.C. Premier David Eby has his first cabinet sworn in by Lieutenant-Governor Janet Austin at Government House in Victoria Wednesday (Dec. 7) morning.
Among the most notable changes, Kootenay West MLA Katrine Conroy is the province’s new Minister of Finance, transitioning from the Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development portfolio. She takes over for Selina Robinson – MLA for Coquitlam-Mailardville – who’s now the Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills. Surrey-Whalley MLA Bruce Ralston is now the Minister of Forests.
Adrian Dix, MLA for Vancouver Kingsway, retained his portfolio as Minister of Health. Additionally, Port Coquitlam MLA Mike Farnworth retained his duties as Minister of Public Safety, Solicitor General and Deputy Premier.
Two new ministries were formed to devote more attention and resources to major issues in B.C. Bowinn Ma is the first Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, while Ravi Kahlon is the Minister of Housing as well as House Leader. Vancouver-False Creek MLA Brenda Bailey takes the Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation portfolio from Kahlon.
