Blazers shut out Royals 3-0 in first of two straight in Victoria

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers cushioned their lead on the Western Hockey League (WHL) B.C. Division Tuesday (Dec. 6) night.

Goaltender Dylan Ernst only had to make 17 saves in the Blazers’ 3-0 shutout of the Victoria Royals.

The Blazers outshot the Royals 24-7 after two periods. Logan Stankoven opened the scoring halfway through the first period while shorthanded as he and Kyle Masters connected on a give-and-go. Caedan Bankier then wristed the puck top shelf on the power play in the second period to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead.

Logan Bairos put the game out of reach with a slap shot from the far circle to make it 3-0.

The Blazers improved their record to 14-5-3-2 on the 2022-23 WHL season, good for 33 points in 24 games. They’re first in the B.C. Division and third in the Western Conference and are 4-0-1 in their last five games.

The Blazers remain on Vancouver Island for another road game against the Royals. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m. from Victoria.
