UPDATE (11:45 a.m.): BC Hydro crews on now on site along Highway 8 and officials say the estimated time of repair is 5 p.m.
EARLIER: MERRITT, B.C. — An accident on Highway 8 towards Spences Bridge has caused downed power lines on the roads.
According to witnesses, there is a dump truck in the ditch causing the incident. DriveBC says the stretch of Highway 8 beginning at Sunshine Valley Road East is closed.
BC Hydro says there are roughly 450 customers affected throughout the area along the highway. Crews are expected to arrive at 11 a.m. to work on the downed power lines.
